1.
Heavens are glowing,
angels rejoicing,
greeting the world with song.
Heavenly wonder!
Swaddled and sleeping,
laid in a manger,
a child is come.
2.
Lambs are still sleeping,
shepherds are watching,
nights stretch out deep and long;
dark clouds are parting,
bright shining angels
stream through the darkness
with heaven's song.
3.
Shepherds are hearing
words that disturb them:
"Our world's Lord Christ, a child!"
Then they are silenced
for from the Angel:
"Go to the stable
to see this sign."
4.
Music is greeting
child of first woman,
Heaven is jubilant!
Eve gained the promise;
she was the first one;
we who have fallen
now raised by Him.
5.
Heavenly must'ry!
Grace has been giv'n, for
this Child has borne our shame.
Light expels darkness,
night ripped asunder,
all we had lost is
now found in Him!
